SURINAME PRESIDENT GETS 20 YEARS IN JAIL FOR MURDER

Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse has been sentenced to 20 years in prison over the execution of 15 political opponents in 1982.
Bouterse, 74, is currently on an official visit in China and will have two weeks to appeal against the conviction.
He was found guilty of planning and ordering the extrajudicial execution of 15 political prisoners.
The president has previously denied the allegations.
He claimed the victims, who included lawyers, union leaders and journalists, were shot while trying to escape a colonial-era fortress in Paramaribo, the capital of the South American country.
Bourtese led Suriname during the 1980s as head of a military government and de facto leader.
He took office as president in 2010, following a democratic election and was elected for another term in 2015.
The court ruled that the president had overseen an operation which involved soldiers under his command kidnapping 16 government critics, including lawyers, journalists and university professors.
Only one of the detainees – a union leader – survived the killings and was able to testify against Bouterse.

PDP takes protest to US, UK as protesters demands CJN resignation  The National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, on Friday, led other party chieftains in a protest march to the American Embassy and the British High Commission in Abuja. Protest letters were separately delivered to officials of the US Embassy and the Brith High Commission by Secondus who sought the intervention of the two countries in the matter. Oil Prices Fires Up As China Increase U.S. Crude Imports

 Oil prices rose on Monday as China ’s plans to ship in large volumes of U.S . crude in August and September outweighed concerns over a slowdown in demand recovery after the coronavirus pandemic and an uptick in supplies. Brent crude added 30 cents, or 0.7 per cent to $45.10 a barrel by 0410 GMT while U.S . West Texas Intermediate crude was up 34 cents, or 0.8 per cent to $42.35 a barrel. Chinese state-owned oil firms have tentatively booked tankers to transport at least 20 million barrels of U.S. crude for August and September, Reuters reported on Friday. This is as China ramped up energy and farm purchases ahead of a review of the Sino-U.S. trade deal.
